Hertz Expedites Travel With "PlatePass™" Electronic Toll Technology

PARK RIDGE, NJ -- (MARKET WIRE) -- July 10, 2006 --The Hertz Corporation announced that it will offer customers in the New York area PlatePass™, an electronic toll payment system that allows renters to bypass back-ups at cash toll lanes and use the high-speed E-Z Pass electronic toll collection lanes. The PlatePass program was launched in the New York Region on July 1, 2006 to customers renting at any of Hertz's three New York metro-area airport locations: JFK and La Guardia Airports in New York City and Liberty International Airport in Newark, NJ; as well as all 13 Hertz locations in Manhattan (effective July 5th).

"Making the car rental and driving experience easier and more enjoyable has always been at the core of Hertz's programs and services," says Charles L. Shafer, Senior Vice President, Hertz Quality Assurance and Administration. "By offering PlatePass, Hertz is providing customers with a simple and cost-effective way to save time and reduce stress while driving. And as one of the busiest cities in the world, New York is the perfect market for Hertz to officially launch the PlatePass system."

Customers utilizing PlatePass will be charged a usage fee of $2.25 per day that they use the system, up to a maximum of $6.75 per week. Customers are only charged the daily service fee for days that an E-Z Pass toll road is actually used. After the rental car is returned, the customer's credit card will be charged the accrued usage fees plus the actual amount of the tolls incurred during the rental period. Customers will receive an itemized listing of all tolls and charges by mail. Customers may also visit www.PlatePass.com to view and download an itemized receipt.

The New York PlatePass system requires the rental of a small electronic device which can be picked up at the Hertz rental counter. The device enables high speed electronic toll collection wherever E-Z Pass is accepted -- on major toll roads throughout the Northeast corridor, from Virginia to Maine, including the Chesapeake Expressway in Virginia, the Pennsylvania Turnpike, the Garden State Parkway and New Jersey Turnpike in New Jersey, the New York State Thruway, all toll bridges and tunnels into Manhattan, the Massachusetts Turnpike, the Maine Turnpike and the Illinois Tollway. (See http://www.ezpass.com/static/info/facilities.shtml for a complete list of participating toll roads).

The New York rollout of PlatePass is an expansion of the successful program Hertz introduced in February 1, 2006 at the Harris County Toll Road in Houston, TX, where all rental vehicles are automatically enrolled and ready to use. Outside of the New York market, renters are not required to use a special device. Instead, PlatePass relies on vehicle license plates and uses images from existing toll plaza cameras to link vehicle license plates to toll transactions. Renters can drive through the high speed electronic lanes and automatically charge tolls to their credit cards. Thousands of Hertz customers in the Houston area have used the PlatePass system to travel through the region's toll plazas without stopping to pay tolls.
