HFMA Selects Richard Schrock for Individual Achievement Award

WESTCHESTER, IL--(Marketwired - May 31, 2016) - The Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) has chosen Richard D. "Dick" Schrock, FHFMA, CPA, as the recipient of the 2016 Frederick C. Morgan Individual Achievement Award. Schrock, a Fellow of HFMA, is the 58th recipient of this award, which honors career-long contributions to HFMA and to the healthcare finance profession.

"Three HFMA chapters and countless HFMA members have benefited from Dick's mentorship and leadership over the past 45 years," said HFMA President and CEO Joseph J. Fifer, FHFMA, CPA, upon learning of the award. "Dick's dedication to the healthcare finance profession is an inspiration to his colleagues, his students, and all who have the privilege of knowing him."

Schrock began his career as a senior auditor with Coopers and Lybrand, Columbus, Ohio. He subsequently served as CFO at several Ohio, Virginia, and North Dakota hospitals and health systems before accepting a position at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Health System, Columbus, Ohio, in 1990, where he worked until retiring as CFO and Treasurer in 2008. Following his retirement, he continues to teach graduate level finance classes in the Graduate Program in Health Management and Policy in the College of Public Health at The Ohio State University.

Since joining HFMA in 1970, Schrock has served HFMA in many roles, including Central Ohio Chapter president in 1974-75, Virginia Chapter president in 1984-85, and North Dakota Chapter Board member from 1987-89. At the national level, Schrock is a recipient of the Follmer Bronze, Reeves Silver, and Muncie Gold awards, and the Founder's Medal of Honor. He was also named as the first recipient of the Central Ohio Chapter's Richard D. Schrock Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011. Schrock participated in the HFMA U.S.-UK Exchange program eight times between 1987 and 2004.

Schrock has been a frequent speaker on healthcare topics at conferences sponsored by HFMA, the American Hospital Association, and the Global Conference Institute, among other organizations. Additionally, Schrock has been an active member at the national level for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and at the local level as a Board member of the Madison County Hospital, where he also was Chairman of the Finance Committee; MedFlight of Ohio, where he also served as Chairman; and Friendship Village of Dublin (Ohio), where he also is a Board member and Finance Committee member.

The Frederick C. Morgan Award will be presented during the Association's annual conference in Las Vegas on June 29.
