hi5 Expands Management Team With Online Gaming Veterans

Big Six Acquisition Brings Co-Founders Kevin Gliner, Monty Kerr and Chad Hansing to hi5 Executive Team

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - February 24, 2010) -   hi5, the largest social entertainment site focused on gaming, today announced the expansion of its online gaming expertise with the acquisition of social gaming company Big Six and several key new members of its management team, including Big Six co-founder and CEO Kevin Gliner, co-founder and president Monty Kerr and co-founder and CTO Chad Hansing.

"This acquisition brings both great technology and great talent into our company," said Alex St. John, president and CTO of hi5. "These guys know more than anyone in the online gaming industry about building a highly reliable and scalable payments infrastructure, which we see as crucial to the next stage of social gaming and a key asset to our development partners."

Big Six co-founder and CEO Kevin Gliner joins hi5 as senior vice president of production and will be in charge of all product management, site design, and content production at hi5. Kevin was previously CEO and founder of Knockabout Games, a developer of premium games for mobile devices that worked with Jamdat (EA Mobile), Microsoft, Sony and Motorola, among others. He has also worked with Alex St. John at WildTangent, where he was executive vice president of product development, managing a 115-person team and building out WildTangent's successful third-party developer program. Kevin was also vice president of product development for Activision and director of product development for Maxis. Kevin sold his first company, Cinematronics, to Maxis, after creating the ubiquitous 3D Pinball For Windows, which shipped on over one billion machines worldwide.

Monty Kerr, co-founder and president at Big Six, joins the hi5 team as vice president of commerce and advertising platforms. Monty was previously founder and CEO of Red 5 Games, a developer of premium multi-player casual games. He was also founder and CEO of Glass Eye Entertainment, which developed and licensed a robust real-money wagering system that managed more than $9 billion in online gaming microcurrency transactions from over 35 million paying customers, and Compulsive Development which developed and licensed casual games, including the Bicycle Card and Casino series. Monty also co-founded Knockabout Games with Gliner and has held design and development positions at Microprose, Maxis and Electronic Arts.

Chad Hansing, co-founder and CTO at Big Six, will be director of commerce platform engineering at hi5, leading the company's commerce platform development. Chad was previously co-founder and CTO at Red 5 Games with Kerr, where he designed and programmed the core game engine technologies, including a robust back-end for managing player achievements, financial reporting and fraud detection. Chad was also co-founder and CTO of Glass Eye Entertainment, where he developed over 100 unique online games, a multi-currency purchasing system that processed over $25 million in credit card purchases per month, and an affiliate system for real-time processing and accounting. Chad also co-founded Knockabout Games with Gliner and Kerr.

"Our backgrounds and expertise were a great fit for hi5's strategic direction," said Kevin Gliner. "Between our previous experience working together and the similar approach to running effective development, we really have been able to hit the ground running."

The three founders of Big Six have relocated from Austin and will be based at hi5's headquarters in San Francisco.
