High Demand Occupation Sparks Launch of New Dental Program

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 15, 2011) - With the ever-growing job demand for certified Intra Oral Dental Assistants, triOS College expands their program offerings to fulfill the need. The new Scarborough campus has enabled triOS College to expand their curriculum and offer Diploma programs such as Intra Oral Dental Assistant. Students at the triOS College Scarborough campus will have access to a state-of-the-art 7000 sq. ft. dental clinic space with 18 dental chairs, 4 X-ray units, a fully equipped dental laboratory, and sterilization room.

"A dental assistant plays a vital role in the healthcare team with responsibilities ranging from administrative to clinical and the triOS program prepares graduates quickly and effectively," says Lisanne Lyons, Dental Programs Coordinator. "The public's increased awareness of oral health has led to more visits to the dentist and thus the need for qualified Intra Oral Dental Assistants."

The triOS Intra-Oral Dental Assistant program prepares students for these sought-after positions in the dental industry. The program covers all elements of assisting in a dental office – from chairside and intra-oral to reception duties. During the program students prepare for the work environment by studying everything from the basics of the anatomy of the head and neck to use of dental equipment to microbiology. Students also gain first-hand practical experience through a mandatory practicum in a dental office. In addition, the Intra-Oral Dental Assistant program prepares students to take the National Dental Assisting Examining Board certification exam. Successful completion of this exam is required to work as an Intra-Oral Dental Assistant.

With the growth in new dental practices, excellent job opportunities are available for Dental Assistants since dentists and other professionals such as hygienists require persons trained in dental assisting duties, both chairside and in the front office. Once assistants are within the field, many responsibilities are placed upon them. They are expected to know how to handle equipment, and provide chairside dental support to dentists, dental hygienists, and dental technicians. Along with clinical duties, assistants also confirm appointments, aid with dental insurance forms, and assist with patient billing and collection. Graduates of Intra Oral Dental Assistant Level II, will have opportunities in hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare facilities.
