HIMSS Attendees Invited to Join World's Top Terminology Experts at IHTSDO's First Affiliate Forum Conference

Attendees Will Learn How SNOMED CT Adoption Improves Patient Care and Interoperability

DENVER, CO--(Marketwire - February 16, 2011) - The International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation (IHTSDO) is hosting the first annual Affiliate Forum Conference at the 2011 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society Annual Conference and Exhibition (HIMSS11) in Orlando. All HIMSS attendees are invited to attend the Affiliate Forum Conference where they will join many of the world's top medical terminology experts in a discussion about how to improve patient care by supporting and enabling broader and better use of SNOMED CT (Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine -- Clinical Terms). The Conference will also address Meaningful Use, ICD-10-CM, Kaiser's Convergent Medical Terminology (CMT) that was recently donated to IHTSDO, other vocabularies, and quality measure reporting.

What: First Annual IHTSDO Affiliate Forum Conference
When: Sunday, February 20, 2011, 10 - 11 a.m. ET
Where: Room 107 at the Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, Fla.

Marc Horowitz, Chairman of the Affiliate Forum and Health Language's Senior Vice President, will lead the panel discussion. Panelists include:

  • Vivian A. Auld, Senior Specialist for Health Data Standards at the National Library of Medicine;
  • Floyd Eisenberg, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.P., Senior Vice President for Health Information Technology at the National Quality Forum;
  • Moon Hee Lee, director of Kaiser Permanente CMT; and
  • Jan-Eric Slot, CEO of IHTSDO.

Developed by the College of American Pathologists, SNOMED CT is a standardized terminology that is used in more than 50 countries as the foundation for electronic health records and other applications. Today, it is owned and administered by IHTSDO, a Copenhagen, Denmark-based international not-for-profit association. IHTSDO's Affiliate Forum is dedicated to increasing adoption of SNOMED CT among member countries and the clinical information technology vendor community.
