His Excellency Jean-Daniel Lafond Takes Part in Niagara's Cuvee Wine Festival

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 28, 2008) - As honorary patron of this festival, His Excellency Jean-Daniel Lafond will take part in Cuvee 2008, a celebration of Ontario's wine production industry. He will deliver a speech at the awards gala ceremony Friday February 29, 2008, at 6:30 p.m., at the Sheraton Fallsview Casino Resort in Niagara. Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean will also give brief remarks during her first visit to Cuvee.

With Canadian wine enthusiasts, Jean-Daniel Lafond will visit the Niagara region for the third consecutive time to facilitate discussions with wine producers, sommeliers and experts in the industry on the importance of food and wine as an integral part of Canada's culture.

In 2007, His Excellency announced the development of a project to celebrate the nation's table. Last year, he stated, "Poets can never go wrong when they sing the virtues of wine and fine cuisine; they magnify man's ability to be happy and to live together in harmony, reflecting the best of humanity, culture and, I hope, of a Canadian virtue."

This year, after a series of consultations throughout the country, Their Excellencies will summarize the results of this project.

They will also take part in a working meeting at Brock University's Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute (CCOVI) with academics, winemakers and professionals in the industry.

Cuvee is one of several events that help Rideau Hall to discover the best Canadian foods and wines it can offer on the nation's table at ceremonies, receptions and other official activities in both official residences.
