Teachings on the "Long Life Empowerment" [in Tibetan called Tsewang] and "Eight Verses of Training the Mind" [called Lojong] are sponsored by CTAO will be held on October 24, 2010 and includes the "Long Life Ceremony" [called Tenshug], which is co-sponsored by Tsengdok Monastery and takes place at the TCCC. Tickets for the teachings can purchased at www.dalailamatoronto2010.org. An empowerment creates the necessary conditions for the development in us of the same qualities as the Buddha. This initiation is open to all, and can also be received by non-Buddhists as a blessing. "Eight Verses of Training the Mind", is a practice that involves refining and purifying one's motivations and attitudes - hence "Mind Training", with a long-term goal of developing altruistic emotions and behaviour towards all people. It is recommended to read the text before taking the teaching. For more information the English text is here: http://www.dalailama.com/teachings/training-the-mind. The "Long Life Ceremony" consists of a religious offering destined to request a spiritual master to live for a long time, so that he may work for the welfare of all beings as long as possible. This ceremony is realized by Tibetan communities internationally and is a great occasion to pray for the long life of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.
