Hitachi Systems Deploys Aruba Wireless LAN in New All-Wireless Office

Portable Computers and Dual-Mode Cellular-Wi-Fi Phones Deliver Secure Mobility to 2,000 Users With Very Low Total Cost of Ownership

TOKYO--(Marketwire - May 15, 2008) - Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: ARUN), a global leader in wireless LANs and secure unified mobility solutions, today announced that Aruba reseller Hitachi Systems & Services (HSAS) has deployed an all-wireless Aruba network at its Omori Building in Tokyo. The new 12 floor facility enables employees to work from any workspace using an open-plan hoteling arrangement, instead of relying on assigned offices. Wi-Fi data and voice communications are used in lieu of fixed cabling. The facility houses 2,000 users and more than 1,000 NEC N902iL dual-mode cellular-Wi-Fi phones are used for voice communications.

"Doing away with fixed corporate LAN data and phone cabling to desks eliminates the costs associated with our frequent personnel relocations and changing workgroup layouts," said Mr. Ishii, Hitachi Systems' Executive Officer and Deputy General Manager, Business Sector 3. "As a result we expect a substantially lower total cost of ownership for the Aruba network compared with a traditional wired LAN. These costs will be further reduced because Aruba's products are now certified as the common authentication infrastructure of the Hitachi Group. This allows us to make extensive use of dual-mode telephones for voice-over-Wi-Fi in-office calls, while using one common security policy across our branch offices and the Hitachi Group of companies. The Hitachi Omori Building is a model all-wireless office and an excellent demonstration space for customers."

Aruba's unified mobility solutions securely deliver networks to users by integrating adaptive wireless LANs, identity-based security, Wi-Fi-to-cellular solutions, and multi-vendor network management into a cohesive, high-performance system. Aruba's Adaptive Radio Management (ARM) technology automates wireless LAN set-up and maintenance, and adapts the network in real-time to accommodate user behavior, interference, and nearby networks. Airtime fairness ensures that slower clients have minimal impact on higher speed devices, an important feature in areas with densely deployed clients. Co-channel interference management enables the highest possible throughout in the presence of nearby wireless LANs and RF transmitters, while 2.4-to-5GHz band steering provides high speed clients with access to the greatest available bandwidth.

"The all-wireless workplace is an idea whose time has come, and Aruba has the technology to make it happen," said Hiromi Komiya, Aruba's VP & Engineering Director for Japan. "Wireless data and voice access are indispensible tools for containing costs and boosting productivity provided they are robustly delivered, securely implemented, and backed by a top-notch service organization. Aruba's unified mobility platform offers best-in-class wireless LAN performance and security, while Aruba reseller HSAS backs-up the systems it sells with superior integration and support. HSAS is so confident in Aruba technology that they rely on it for their own business-critical infrastructure, a priceless endorsement that speaks volumes to their customers."
