Hockey's greatest DEFENSEMEN assist "at risk" Youth in Toronto

Coffey, Murphy, Kelly, Langway & Park to lend support to "at risk" children in Toronto Attention: Assignment Editor, News Editor, Photo Editor, Sports Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - March 9, 2005) - The sixth annual Heroes of Hockey Dinner & Auction will be held tonight starting at 6:30pm at the Venetian Banquet & Hospitality Centre at 219 Romina Drive, Concord.

This year's the Heroes of Hockey will be featuring hockey's greatest defensemen. The group of DEFENSEMEN is led by 2004 Hockey Hall of Fame inductees Paul Coffey and Larry Murphy along with former Leaf great "Red" Kelly and Boston Bruins Brad Park and Rod Langway. Joe Bowen the "voice" of the Toronto Maple Leafs will be on hand to host the event.

"This yearly event allows Youth Assisting Youth the opportunity to showcase its peer mentoring program on a larger scale with the help of our hockey heroes," said Sally Spencer, Executive Director, Youth Assisting Youth. "YAY's award winning preventative approach to Youth crime has a 98% success rate at keeping "at risk" children in school and out of trouble, can clearly be attributed to our Youth Volunteers and dedicated staff," added Spencer.

The evening will be intimate and interactive, whereby guests can mingle with their heroes. Players will take part in a meet & greet session and will sign autographs, take photos and retell great hockey stories of the 70's, 80's and 90's. A silent and live auction will be included in the evening, loaded with unique and hard to come by hockey and sports memorabilia, as well as Group of Seven artwork.

Youth Assisting Youth (YAY) is a local non-profit charitable organization based in Toronto, with the unique mandate to provide a preventative community service through building "special friendships" between "at risk" children aged 6 to 15 and youth volunteers aged 16 to 29.
For the past 29 years, YAY has been preventing problems before they start.
