Hogan Assessments Executive to Explore Dark Side of Self-Confidence at TED@NYC Event

Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic to Debunk Idea That Self-Confidence Leads to Success, Explore Negative Effects of High Confidence in the Workplace

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Oct 3, 2013) - Hogan Assessment Systems, Inc., a global leader in personality assessment, research and leadership development, today announced that Dr. Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic, the company's vice president of Research and Innovation, will be a featured speaker at the upcoming TED@NYC event. Hosted by TED, a nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, the private event will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Joe's Pub in New York City.

An international authority in psychological profiling and emotional intelligence, Chamorro-Premuzic will present, "The Dark Side of Confidence." In this discussion, he will explore confidence in the workplace and debunk the idea that a high degree of self-confidence leads to success. He will also address the destructive tendencies of confidence, such as excessive risk-taking, a sense of entitlement and poor relationships with colleagues, and explain how individuals with low levels of confidence are often more self-aware.

Chamorro-Premuzic's session is based on his upcoming book, Confidence: Overcoming Low Self-Esteem, Insecurity, and Self-Doubt. In addition to his role with Hogan, Chamorro-Premuzic is also the director of UCL's Industrial-Organizational and Business Psychology program, and an associate to Harvard's Entrepreneurial Finance Lab.

"It is an honor to speak at TED@NYC," said Chamorro-Premuzic. "I believe attendees will be surprised to hear what we really know about confidence. Because we live in the age of the confidence cult, almost everyone assumes high confidence is key to success when, in fact, the reverse is true."

TED events bring together the most fascinating thinkers and doers from the worlds of Technology, Entertainment and Design who are challenged to give the talk of their lives. The TED@NYC event serves as a talent search for the TED2014 Annual Conference in Vancouver this spring, with the top-rated speakers invited to present at the conference. Moreover, several speakers may see their talks go live on the homepage of TED.com.
