HOK to Design New State Department Office Annex in Moscow, Russia

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - September 9, 2010) - The U.S. Department of State announced today that HOK (Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum) has been selected for the planning and design of the New Office Annex (NOX) in Moscow, Russia.

The Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) reviewed the submissions of 27 architectural firms competing to plan and design the NOX. OBO determined that HOK provided the best approach to planning and designing a multi-story NOX and sequencing the multiple-phased approach on an existing operating facility.

HOK has been involved in the successful planning and design of a dozen U.S. embassy projects. "We are proud of our long-term partnership with the State Department and are honored to have the opportunity to work on the Moscow Embassy Compound," stated Bill Hellmuth, President of HOK and Principal Designer for the NOX project.

HOK will move forward to the planning and design phase of the modern state-of-art $192 million project. The NOX will accommodate a new consular section and 300 desks. The 15,000 square meter building will be built on the United States Embassy compound in Moscow.

Committed to developing resources and expertise to help lead the world toward sustainable communities and building environments, HOK will achieve at least a Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) silver rating on the NOX. HOK will begin the planning and design with groundbreaking anticipated in 2012 and construction estimated to be completed in 2015.
