Holder of 85 Guinness World Records, Ashrita Furman to Attempt a New Guinness World Record on Parliament Hill, Sept. 16th, 12:30 P.M.

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 12, 2008) - Ashrita Furman from New York, current holder of the most Guinness World Records, will undertake to set yet another by twirling an 11.5 foot diameter hula hoop around his waist for the most revolutions in one minute on Parliament Hill, Tuesday, September 16th-his birthday-at 12:30 p.m., in honour of the World Harmony Run Cross-Canada Torch Relay's arrival in Ottawa.

Ashrita, known as Mr. Versatility, has set 204 official Guinness records and is the holder of the most current standing records: 85 and counting!! He has set records on all seven continents and in more than 30 different countries. According to Marco Frigatti, Head of Records, Guinness Book of World Records, Ashrita has the official record for "The most current Guinness world records held at the same time by an individual." A member of the worldwide team of volunteers hosting the World Harmony Run, Ashrita will be attempting this record in honour of the arrival of the World Harmony Run to Ottawa on Monday, September 15th. Currently, this global torch relay is crossing Canada from St. John's to Vancouver and will be welcomed to our nation's capital by Mayor Larry O'Brien during a 10:00 a.m. ceremony in front of City Hall at 110 Laurier Ave. W. on Monday, September 15th.

Founded in 1987 by humanitarian Sri Chinmoy, the World Harmony Run is a global torch relay that seeks to further the cause of international friendship and goodwill. Spanning over 140 countries, its goal is not to raise funds or promote any religious or political cause, but rather to foster in a dynamic way the universal spirit of harmony that transcends cultural and national boundaries.
