Holly Dental Team Trains in Life-Saving Techniques

HOLLY, MI--(Marketwired - November 16, 2015) - The doctors and staff at Holly Dental Care, a family dental practice, have completed training to become recertified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.

The annual courses focused on life-saving techniques like CPR, and the staff worked through mock scenarios as an emergency response team, with the doctors acting as team leaders. After finishing the training, all members of the Holly Dental Care team were recertified as members of an office resuscitation team.

"We complete these trainings every year to ensure that we have the best-trained team possible in the unlikely event of some sort of medical or dental emergency," said Dr. Rand Hunter, president and chief clinical director of Holly Dental Care.

The course included both an information session and hands-on training through dental and medical emergency simulations. The course was taught by Dr. David Doernbach, a nationally renowned trainer, and is accredited by the Academy of General Dentistry as a PACE-approved program.

The Advanced Cardiac Life Support recertification is mandated every two years by the state of Michigan for any dentist who performs sedation dentistry. Holly Dental Care offers both oral conscious and IV sedation.

Dr. Hunter said the training gave the staff an opportunity to train together and develop a comprehensive emergency response plan.

"Unfortunately, not all sedation dentists train to this level," Dr. Hunter said. "While we render safe sedation, we feel that our patients deserve this level of care and take comfort in knowing that we are prepared for any scenario."

Dr. Rand Hunter attended Michigan State University for his undergraduate studies and earned his dental degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. He served as a team dentist for athletes and staff for the Palace of Auburn Hills. He is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, which permits him to provide sedation dentistry safely. He completed his residency on sedation dentistry at the Albert Einstein Medical School and completed advanced endodontic training at the Las Vegas Institute.

Dr. Rand Hunter has received the Procter and Gamble Dental Research Award and is a former co-host of the cable TV show "It's Your Health." He holds memberships with the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, Summit Study Group and Pinnacle Study Group and serves on the Baker College Dental Program Assisting advisory board. Dr. Hunter generously donates his time to missionary work in Africa and South America.

Dr. Marie Hunter attended the University of Michigan, where she earned a degree as a registered dental hygienist and then graduated with honors from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. Dr. Marie Hunter studied cosmetic dentistry at the Las Vegas Institute and received implant restoration training from the Zimmer Implant Institute. She is also trained in Six Months Smiles, which is orthodontics for adults.

Dr. Marie Hunter also is a former co-host of the cable TV show "It's Your Health," and she currently holds memberships with the Southern Lakes Multidisciplinary Study Group and Summit Study Group. She has received the Quintessence Award for Clinical Achievement in Periodontics, the International College of Dentists Award and the American College of Stomatologic Surgeons Award.
