Home Insurance That Can Cover Those Half Term Mishaps

MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - May 30, 2011) - Swinton Insurance is warning homeowners with children to take extra precaution this half term as school holidays are traditionally a time when home insurance claims increase.

Swinton, the UK's leading high street retailer of home insurance surveyed 1,200 people and found that 21% had made a house insurance claim in the past due to children playing in the house during half term.

According to the survey the most common household accidents that happen in the home during school holidays are broken windows from flying footballs, drinks spilled on carpets and broken ornaments from flailing limbs playing games consoles.

Swinton is advising parents of school aged children to ensure they have adequate cover before the start of the half term so that they will be covered in the event of accidental damage to their belongings.

Steve Chelton, Insurance Development Manager at Swinton said, "The risk of accidents in the home greatly increases during school holiday time so we would urge homeowners who have children to double check their home insurance policy to ensure they are covered. A standard policy will generally cover for accidental damage to electrical equipment like TVs and HiFis, but it may be worth considering increasing the amount of accidental cover you have to include other mishaps in the home."
