HomeGrid Forum Showcases G.hn as Most Versatile In-Home Technology at CES Asia

HomeGrid Forum Booth to Demo a Wide Range of Applications Over Every Wired Medium in the Home

SHANGHAI, CHINA--(Marketwired - May 10, 2016) -  CES Asia

News highlights:

  • HomeGrid Forum exhibiting at CES Asia 2016 for first time
  • Booth #1057, Hall N1 will showcase a total of four demonstrations
  • The demonstrations will see HomeGrid members including ARRIS, Comtrend, Zinwell, Marvell and Sigma showing G.hn powerline capabilities for 4K Smart TV, Wi-Fi and G.hn PLC extenders
  • HomeGrid Forum is also demonstrating a Broadband Forum performance test plan for powerline using TR-208

A group of HomeGrid Forum silicon and system vendor members from around the globe have come together at CES Asia for the first time to showcase why G.hn is the most versatile in-home technology, delivering high quality content at gigabit speeds.

Converging at the HomeGrid Forum booth (No.: 1057, in Hall N1), members will participate in key demonstrations including a live showcase using G.hn universal PLC splitters from Allion Labs, titled 'TR-208: Broadband Forum Performance Test Plan for Powerline.' The BBF TR-208 document was created by the collaboration of all powerline chipset manufacturers based on two different standards to find a way to repeatably test powerline in a lab. Another live demonstration will educate attendees on why G.hn powerline is the most robust wireless backhaul solution. Skyworth 4K Smart TVs will be on the booth to show the truly 'plug and play' nature of the technology for creating a smart home entertainment center, capable of offering services such as games, shopping, healthcare and others.

Vendors participating at the show include ARRIS, Brightech, Comtrend, D-Link, FirstMile, Marvell, PESI/Prime, Readylinks, Sigma, Technicolor, Wondertek, Xingtera, YOTC and Zinwell. Other displays at the booth will demonstrate ubiquitous connectivity through every wired medium, including powerline, coax, phoneline and plastic optical fiber (POF). Products which are available in local retail at Alibaba and Taobao are also on display, most of which are currently in the process of certification.

G.hn is increasingly becoming universally recognized as a powerful Gigabit home networking technology over any type of home wiring. Broadband powerline communication systems (PLC) are an important element of this as they are available almost everywhere and provide a fast, flexible and reliable communication link between home devices. G.hn over powerline, or as some tech industry aficionados profess, "the new powerline", doesn't suffer from the same issues as legacy powerline technology. G.hn has been proven to work through multiple electrical panels, through AFCI outlets, and withstand noise better than legacy powerline technology. TR-208, which is used within one of the live demonstrations, provides the industry, operators, and test labs with a well-defined test bed specification, and a set of tests that enable a direct performance comparison to be made between different PLC products and technologies, which can be independently verified.

"Asia is a big market for G.hn deployments and we are excited to be here at CES Asia for the first time in the Forum's history to showcase why G.hn is the best choice and that new products are being certified on a regular basis," comments Donna Yasay, President of HomeGrid Forum. "We have seen many test plans being used to compare home networking technologies and the results are variable, depending very much on the choice of set-up. TR-208 takes all the uncertainty and variability out of the set-up and gives truly comparable lab-verified results."
