Homeland Security Officials Join Industry Experts to Discuss the Future of the DHS Enterprise

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - September 18, 2014) - Leading officials from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and industry joined together today at the Homeland Security & Defense Business Council's 10th Anniversary Symposium and National Conversation on the Future of the DHS Enterprise. The two-part program included a keynote address by Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and examined the State of the DHS Enterprise from a Business Management Perspective. Speakers discussed how current budgetary constraints are driving the need to find innovative and transformative ways to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the agency.

Panelists for the Symposium were Anne K. Altman, General Manager, Federal Government and Industries, IBM Corporation; Thomas P. Michelli, Deputy Assistant Commandant (C4IT) and Deputy Chief Information Officer, U.S. Coast Guard; Stephen Rice, Assistant Administrator and Chief Information Officer, Transportation Security Administration; and Eugene H. Schied, Assistant Commissioner, Office of Administration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Todd Morris, a member of the Council's Board of Directors and Vice President and Business Area Director, Homeland Security and Law Enforcement, SRA International, Inc., moderated the panel. These leaders discussed the challenges and opportunities involved with enterprise transformation efforts, including sharing or consolidating IT, data, and financial systems. 

Secretary Johnson delivered the keynote address on the Department's priorities and collaboration with industry partners. Following his remarks, Pat Schambach, the Council's Board Chairman, moderated the National Conversation with the Secretary on his vision for the future.
