HomePlug Powerline Alliance Showcases HomePlug AV
Technology at CeBIT 2005

SAN RAMON, Calif.--(CCNMatthews - Mar 7, 2005) -

The World's Only Freely Licensable, Multi-Vendor Powerline
Communications Technology Provides Whole-House Connectivity for HDTV,
Home Theater, and Other Connected Home Applications

HomePlug® Powerline Alliance, Inc., an industry consortium that
creates international specifications for high-speed powerline networking
products and services, will be exhibiting in the World of Powerline
pavilion at CeBIT 2005 in Hannover, Germany. The alliance, with nearly
fifty member companies worldwide, will show how HomePlug AV technology
builds on the global success of HomePlug 1 to provide reliable
whole-house distribution of digital video and audio over in-home
powerlines. The demonstration will be held in Hall 14, Stand H13.

The demonstration illustrates how HomePlug AV technology enhances a
consumers' digital entertainment experience by enabling whole-house
distribution of HDTV and other digital content without the need to
install additional set-top boxes or run new wires. Using Sharp's high
quality AV transmission technologies to bridge to an implementation
platform of the pre-ratification HomePlug AV technology, HDTV content is
transmitted over the power lines from a personal video recorder (PVR) to
Sharp's popular Aquos LCD television.

Throughout the CeBIT exposition halls, member companies of the HomePlug
alliance will be showcasing the wide range of products that use the
alliance's initial standard, HomePlug 1.0. With over two million
HomePlug products sold, products in use on six continents, and
integrated circuits produced by multiple vendors, HomePlug 1.0
technology has enjoyed global success that continues to grow.

"Powerline communication revolutionizes the meaning of the connected
home," said Oleg Logvinov, president of the HomePlug alliance. "The
technology transforms every powered device into a networked appliance
capable of seamlessly delivering every kind of entertainment or
communications that a consumer could desire. All HomePlug technologies
are being designed to interoperate, so they truly enable the
long-awaited dream of the connected home." Mr. Logvinov is also
president and CEO of Arkados, Inc., a subsidiary of CDKNet.com.

All HomePlug specifications are developed through competitive processes
that test the powerline technologies submitted by companies from across
the globe. After laboratory tests and field trials, the membership of
the HomePlug alliance selects the best baseline technology and begins a
multi-company specification process that introduces improvements.

Arkados, Conexant Systems, Intellon Corporation and Sharp are the main
technology contributors to the HomePlug AV specification, which the
alliance expects to ratify in the second quarter of 2005. The CeBIT
demonstration uses devices produced by Intellon and Sharp.

The HomePlug AV MAC and PHY have also been recently approved by the
alliance as the baseline technology for the new HomePlug BPL
specification, which the alliance expects to release later in 2005.

All interested parties are invited to join the HomePlug Powerline
Alliance and contribute to the development of its specifications.
