Homeward Trust Edmonton and Community to Celebrate National Housing Day

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Nov. 22, 2010) - On November 22nd, citizens in Edmonton came together to celebrate National Housing Day, a day to recognize progress, and the people and organizations who advance affordable housing.

In conjunction with the Government of Alberta, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, and the REALTORS Association of Edmonton, Homeward Trust Edmonton hosted a luncheon, featuring keynote speaker Keith Palmer.

Mr. Palmer's address, "Affordable Housing: Everybody Needs a Place to Call Home – But Where?" focused focus on community engagement, achieving support, and building capacity prior to commencing a project. It touched on many of the key issues facing the community in its effort to deliver more affordable housing, and to end homelessness in the next ten years.

"In the Edmonton area, we are making progress towards ending homelessness; providing affordable, secure housing is a big part of that" said Susan McGee, Executive Director of Homeward Trust Edmonton. "Our agencies, service providers, and housing organizations all work very hard, and are accomplishing great things. It's important to take today to recognize not only the importance of housing for everyone, but the work our community is doing".

The luncheon was the 5th annual event in Edmonton to mark National Housing Day.

Homeward Trust Edmonton is a not for profit organization that uses a community-based approach toward the goal of ending homelessness in Edmonton. Our primary role is to coordinate response to housing needs by working together with local agencies and all orders of government
