Homeward Trust to Conduct Count of Edmonton's Homeless

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Oct. 4, 2010) - On October 5th, from 5 in the morning until 10 at night, volunteers will be walking through the city to count Edmonton's homeless population. Homeward Trust's biannual Homeless Count is a point-in-time count that enables the monitoring of changes and trends of the homeless population. The last count, held in October 2008, identified 3079 Edmontonians without a place to call home.

Homeward Trust invites all media to attend a briefing and overview of the event.

Date: Tuesday, October 5th

Time: 11:15am

Location: Cunningham Place, 9330 – 104 Ave.

The event is scheduled to take place on the front lawn. In case of inclement weather, it will be moved inside to D-Block; there will be signs directing media.

Susan McGee, Executive Director of Homeward Trust, will provide remarks and be available for questions. There will be the opportunity for media to film or photograph volunteers afterwards and throughout the day. Street parking, and parking behind the building, is available.

Homeward Trust Edmonton is a not for profit organization that uses a community-based approach toward the goal of ending homelessness in Edmonton. Our primary role is to coordinate response to housing needs by working together with local agencies and all orders of government.
