HoneyBaked Ham Serves up First Full-Service Restaurant

Sweet Clove Sunshine Cafe Introduces Unique Concept and Farm-Fresh Ingredients

COLUMBUS, OH--(Marketwire - March 8, 2011) - The HoneyBaked Ham Company is entering new territory this year, serving up something completely different from its trusted, traditional offerings. With more than 50 years of experience creating great food and family memories, this household name has opened the doors of its first full-service breakfast and lunch concept -- Sweet Clove Sunshine Café, located within the HoneyBaked Ham store on Sawmill Road in Columbus. Visitors can now sit down and enjoy that same great HoneyBaked taste, along with some new, one-of-a-kind menu offerings.

"Sweet Clove Sunshine Café is a unique restaurant concept, and the carefully planned menu proves to our customers that quality and presentation are of the utmost importance to us," Corporate Chef Cord Rogers explained. "Sweet Clove continues the tradition of offering world-class HoneyBaked meats, featured throughout the menu, along with a host of fresh ingredients not commonly found in the average restaurant kitchen."

Sweet Clove's menu development was a labor of love for Rogers, who spent months deciding on the precise ingredients for each dish. Fifteen types of oranges for juice and 35 different kinds of coffee beans later, Rogers created what he believes to be the perfect menu for Sweet Clove. Each menu item is made with painstaking attention to detail; the signature Eggs Benedict features farm-fresh, water-poached eggs, served on a scratch-made pancake muffin and topped with a house-made hollandaise sauce.

"In my 17 years of culinary experience, I have never seen a restaurant so committed to offering customers a unique spin on their favorite breakfast and lunch items, made with the finest ingredients available and served in a warm, inviting atmosphere," said Rogers. "Where else can you find French Toast made with the original King's Hawaiian Bread, dipped into a French cream batter, served with warm Vermont Pure Maple Syrup and topped off with house-made whipped cream served table-side?"

The restaurant boasts several special touches that give guests a one-of-a-kind dining experience -- whipped cream made from scratch, Ohio Amish cheeses, real cracked eggs (not a mix or substitute) and fresh-baked breads. Even a signature item like bacon is given special attention at Sweet Clove. The Honey Spice Bacon is hand-selected for leanness, then double smoked over real hardwood and thick-sliced. The sliced bacon is then hand-rubbed with a secret spice blend and baked, not fried.

While breakfast is its specialty, Sweet Clove's exceptional menu doesn't stop there. From soups and salads to burgers and full entrées, Sweet Clove offers lunch menu items as well. Guests can even tame their sweet tooth with Sweet Clove's desserts like the scratch-made strawberry shortcake. Sweet Clove offers a full breakfast and lunch menu seven days a week -- Monday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Sunday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

"Before we became a full-service restaurant, we mastered making legendary meats," Rogers added. "Because of that, our signature meats -- ham, turkey and chicken -- are featured in many of the items on our menu. They are part of what make our soups, sandwiches, omelets and benedicts so unique."

The Sweet Clove kitchen is equipped with cooktops that use induction heat, rather than a flame, to prepare food. As a result, there is no grease and no need for an oven hood. Guests can also take comfort in knowing there are no can openers, microwaves, fryers, trans fats or MSG in the Sweet Clove kitchen because only the freshest ingredients are used. Even the pancakes and French fries are oven-cooked, eliminating the use of added fats.

In keeping with HoneyBaked tradition, Sweet Clove offers an environment that brings people together, whether you're looking for a quiet location for a business meeting, or a place to celebrate with your closest friends and family. Sweet Clove provides a flexible space for meetings or special events, and even adds a seamless connection to its retail store so guests can take home favorites from the menu. This bold new direction for the company comes after more than 50 years of serving up the legendary ham synonymous with The HoneyBaked Ham Company.
