Horizon WHY Group Chief Appointed to National Research Council Social and Behavioral Sciences Roundtable

Sheri Roder Joins Roundtable Informing Education, Military, and Public Health Communities

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - January 26, 2015) - Horizon Media, the largest and fastest growing privately-owned media services agency in the world, announced today that Sheri Roder, Chief of the agency's WHY Group, has been appointed to the National Research Council's Social and Behavioral Sciences Roundtable. Roder is one of only three industry representatives who have been selected to provide strategic communications expertise within the roundtable.

The National Research Council's Social and Behavioral Sciences Roundtable was formed around the notion that there is a need for better public understanding about Social and Behavioral (SBS) research, as well as a need for researchers to improve their understanding of how, when, and what types of SBS research are used by various communities -- specifically the education, military, and public health communities.

"This kind of research helps us to understand the human dimension -- when approaching topics from health care to our educational curriculum to national security -- to help affect change through policy development," said Sheri Roder, Chief of the WHY Group at Horizon Media. "And the implications go beyond public policy -- they influence our daily lives. It's truly exciting to have the opportunity to transform attitudes and behaviors about the value of SBS research on a national scale."

The National Research Council's Social and Behavioral Sciences Roundtable brings together top players from three groups integral to the Social and Behavioral Sciences -- practitioners of SBS research, those who use it, and those who know how to communicate about it. These groups will develop strategies to maximize the usefulness and implementation of SBS research.

Roder's appointment to the National Research Council's Social and Behavioral Sciences Roundtable is one result of Horizon's continued investment in consumer exploration and understanding as the backbone of exceptional communications planning.

The National Research Council can appoint up to 20 members to the roundtable. Meetings will seek to identify ways to increase the use of SBS research findings and ascertain lessons for future goals and priorities in the field. The roundtable's first meeting was Wednesday, January 7, in Washington, D.C.

The National Research Council's Social and Behavioral Sciences Roundtable is part of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), an independent, non-profit, and nonpartisan organization founded by President Lincoln in 1863. The mission of the NAS is to advise the nation on matters of importance in "any subject of science or art".
