The Hospital of Saint Raphael Uses SciHealth to Decrease Emergency Room Admission Times

St. Raphael Posts a 49% Decrease in Emergency Room Admit Times

ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwire - October 14, 2008) - The Hospital of Saint Raphael has successfully implemented SciHealth's Insight in a number of process improvement efforts.

In 2004, the hospital initiated a comprehensive process improvement program using Six Sigma to engage staff in data-driven decision making. Dashboards developed within Insight have allowed stakeholders to monitor progress and ensure long-term success for each process improvement project.

Initially, the amount of time to admit an emergency room patient -- from decision to admit to when the patient is checked in to their inpatient bed -- was an average of 327 minutes. Through using Insight to review this metric weekly, by September 2008 times were shortened to an average of 167 minutes -- posting a 49% decrease in admit time.

St. Raphael also uses SciHealth to focus on patient flow throughout the hospital. Using Insight, the hospital staff tracks daily patient flow performance trends and monitors progress during a weekly multi-disciplinary team meeting.

"We are very pleased with the impact SciHealth's Insight has provided to our efforts to improve patient flows. We continually strive to improve our ability to efficiently progress patients throughout their continuum of care," states Dr. Charles Hollander, MD Chief Operating Officer at the Hospital of Saint Raphael.
