GATESHEAD, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwired - May 12, 2014) - Appetite and travel go hand-in-hand. Some people have an appetite for travel; others an appetite when they travel. And in either instance, the Newcastle Gateshead Marriott Hotel MetroCentre knows how to feed it. In addition to its four-star accommodations, the property recently made headlines for its culinary endeavours, proving that it knows better than anyone what's in good taste.
The hotel has long enjoyed a reputation for having one of the best restaurants in Gateshead, The Rare Grill Restaurant, and its most recent partnership only strengthens that position. It has contracted with Eliza Pepperpot, a local food producer, to furnish the hotel with an assortment of its artisan jams, preserves, chutneys and chocolates.
So far the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Eliza Pepperpot's mouthwatering products integrate local and seasonal products wherever possible so that guests of these accommodations in Newcastle upon Tyne can enjoy an authentic taste of the region.
The hotel's commitment to work with local producers and its established gastronomic presence in the community not only make it one of the most appetising options among four-star hotels in Newcastle but an excellent host of culinary competitions as well. Case in point is the "Spring Forward with Gateshead" event held in April of this year. During the event, catering students from Gateshead College split into teams, entered the hotel's kitchens and got to work inventing spring-inspired menus for the property's annual corporate event.
As the students prepared their delicacies from scratch with locally sourced ingredients, they gleaned tips and techniques from the hotel's head chef, Chris Wells. Then the students assumed their positions at designated market stalls to serve their dishes to guests who also served as judges for the competition. The winning team, which concocted plates of suckling pig with spiced-apple dipping sauce and Earl Grey roast shoulder of lamb, earned the opportunity to visit the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel in London for a further taste of hands-on job experience.
Just as the participating culinary students look forward to their next Marriott adventure, travellers can look forward to biting into an experience like no other when they stay at this property among Newcastle city hotels.
