Hotel in Waikiki Celebrates Queen Lili'uokalani's Birthday With Fall Schedule of Events

Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa Offers Fun for Aloha Week Through September

HONOLULU, HI--(Marketwired - Sep 19, 2013) - September isn't traditionally known as a month for celebration, but in Hawaii, it's the time celebrate the birth of Queen Lili'uokalani and the local culture's music, dance and history with Aloha Week. To kicks things off, the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa hosted an event in honor of the queen's birthday, inviting guests to learn more about the queen and the royal site on which the Waikiki Beach hotel sits.

The birthday celebration was just the start of a month of events at this hotel in Honolulu, Hawaii. For Aloha Week, the resort is hosting its own special events.

On September 25th, join guests and visitors in the Paoakalani Tower Main Lobby for The Story of Hamohamo: Queen Lili'uokalani. From 9:30 to 11am, visitors will learn about the history of the hotel and the land upon which it sits. Afterward, head to the first-floor arcade for the local crafters' fair, held 9am to 2pm on both September 25th and the 27th.

This Pearl Harbor hotel has a special relationship with the past queen. A century ago it was the site of her summer home, which she called Paoakalani, translated to mean "heavenly fragrance." As it was surrounded by lily ponds, elaborate gardens and tropical flowers, she couldn't have chosen a better name. Just as the queen used the home as a place to retreat, relax and informally entertain friends and family, the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, with permission from the queen's Liliuokalani Trust, set to do the same when it built the resort on the royal site.
