INDIANAPOLIS, IN--(Marketwired - Sep 3, 2013) - Recognizing the dedicated services of local first responders, a "Flame of Service" monument was unveiled recently during Indianapolis' third annual Mayor's Appreciation Day for Veterans held at the Indianapolis Marriott East, one of the premier hotels near the city's downtown convention center and other popular attractions.
Graciously hosting the mayor's annual event, the prominent Indianapolis Marriott East regularly welcomes group functions and proudly displays the new "Flame of Service" which was dedicated during the Aug. 3, 2013 ceremony by Mayor Greg Ballard. The impressive monument was dedicated to local personnel serving the community as first responders with the Indianapolis Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and Marion County Sheriff's Department. The hotel's expansive event space was ideal for welcoming the many veterans and local service personnel who were on hand for the occasion. Special guests attending the 2:30 p.m. dedication included Commander Randy Taylor of the IMPD, Assistant EMS Chief Chuck Ford, Chief Brian Sanford of the Indianapolis Fire Department and Marion County Sheriff John Layton.
Co-sponsored by the Indianapolis Marriott East hotel and the Mayor's Advisory Council for Veterans (MACV), the annual Appreciation Day festivities was free to all Indianapolis military families, and included fun, food, music and games as well as booths offering information concerning veteran services and employment opportunities. Comprised of city military leaders, representatives from veteran service organizations, the Veteran's Hospital, Veteran's Administration regional office and other service centers and groups within the community; the MACV works across organizational lines to improve the overall well-being of local veterans and their families.
