Houston Knee Surgeon Performs New Ligament Saving Total Knee Replacement

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwired - Sep 5, 2014) - Leading Houston knee surgeon Dr. Larry L. Likover has successfully performed multiple total knee replacement (TKR) procedures using the new Vanguard XP Knee replacement system. With technology revolutionizing the TKR, Biomet's XP Knee retains all the patient's normal knee ligaments, including the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL).

The new XP Knee replacement system differs from other TKR systems sold by all manufacturers up until now. This is the first time in the history of orthopedics that the ACL and posterior cruciate ligament can both be saved and function normally in a knee replacement, said Dr. Likover.

"The femur and patella replacement are the same," he said, "but the tibia has to be done precisely to not injure the ACL."

Patients receiving the XP Knee are having less trouble recovering motion during recovery, and "all are pleased so far."
