LEEDS, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Oct. 19, 2012) - There comes a point in every car owner's life when they will have to turn to a 'car expert' for advice and help fixing their vehicle. However, some of these 'car experts' can often overcharge people or do an inadequate job.
Finding a reliable, experienced and affordable mechanic can be a difficult task, which is why Asda finance has put together some top tips to help motorists find a the right person for the job.
Whilst you might not be able to avoid going to a garage altogether, you can reduce the trips you might have to make by performing regular maintenance on your vehicle.
Worryingly, Asda Finance research* shows that almost 5% of drivers never check their lights and almost 8% of motorists never check their windscreen for damage. Regardless of how much (or little!) care you take of your car, it may be beneficial for motorists to have breakdown cover.
Asda Finance Tips for Finding a Reliable Mechanic
Don't settle for the first price you are quoted as you might be being ripped off. Shop around for the best deal by getting a range of different quotes for the work that needs to be done. Prices can vary significantly especially when it comes to parts and labour costs.
Total job costs
Some mechanics may try to charge you by the hour but getting a quote for the total job cost will be much more beneficial. Whilst this might be difficult to gauge in the beginning you could ask how long it will take and set a maximum time and budget limit.
Speak to your friends and family for local recommendations when it comes to finding a reliable mechanic. Additionally you could use the internet to conduct research in your area and check out online reviews of the work that a mechanic might have done.
