With great pleasure, we announce the 2nd
year of our 5-year mandate to empower 'at risk' children in the GTA through
hands-on exposure to the beauty and power of Jazz music. This year's target
area is Toronto's downtown core. Working with the Toronto District School
Board, we are delighted to say that our expectations have been surpassed. Doubled
in size from our inaugural season, our children's jazz choir of 400+
voices will be augmented by a contingent from last year's program in
North Etobicoke; a 50 voice teen choir, drawn from students at St. Joseph's
College School and St. Mike's Boy's Choir; a big band; string section; the
Toronto Jazz Chorus; Howard Rees' Trio and very special guests Dr. Barry Harris
and Charles McPherson.
We believe that the dramatic increase in participation
is an indication of both the great need for music programs in high priority
areas of the GTA, and the quality of the work that we are doing to positively
impact the children.
This year's project will conclude with a concert at
the Koerner Hall, (RCM) on January 28th, 2010.
