Howe Sound Brewing Company won three awards at the Canadian Brewing Awards in Montreal and another four at the North American Brewing Awards in Idaho. The Canadian Brewing Awards are Canada's premiere beer competition, judging beers from across Canada in 39 style categories.

In Montreal, Howe Sound Brewing won awards for the following beers: Woolly Bugger Barley Wine (Gold); Devil's Elbow IPA (Bronze); and Pumpkineater Imperial Pumpkin Ale (Bronze).

In the North American Brewers Awards 2012, in Idaho Falls, HSB won in four categories: Baldwin and Cooper Best Bitter (Silver), Rail Ale Nut Brown (Silver); Garibaldi Honey Pale Ale (Bronze), and Pumpkineater Imperial Pumpkin Ale (Bronze).

During 2012, Howe Sound competed in Canada and the US, and the competition and beer styles are truly artisan, changing and adapting to the growing demand of local consumers and public taste. As a microbrewery, one can adapt and change to an ever creative market without losing creativity and taste.

Howe Sound Brewery Manager, Paul Wilson, attended the awards ceremony in Montreal. "It was a true competitive event with more breweries and tastes from across Canada. BC breweries competed very well, and we're very proud that our beers performed so well in a national blind-tasting competition, especially our "Woolly Bugger" Barley Wine that received gold this year. We feel it's important to compete in both Canadian and American events as we distribute in several Canadian provinces as well as several states in the U.S. The level of competition north and south of the border has skyrocketed in the last few years. The tastes and creative spirit of brewing is changing with sours, barrel aged beers and unique artisan flavors becoming more mainstream," Wilson said.

Howe Sound plans to introduce its beers to the Ontario liquor board in August, 2012, and intends on shipping draft beer to the Washington State market beginning this September.

Howe Sound Brewing is based in Squamish, BC and has been brewing delicious craft ales and lagers since 1996. Howe Sound Brewing is a family and privately owned craft brewery located in Squamish, BC, brewing 26 different artisan ales and distributing a full-range of lagers and ales in BC, Alberta, Washington and soon to be in Ontario.
