HP and Asus Reset Price Expectations for Tablets

iPad2 Continues to Lead SocialNuggets Tablet Index for August Followed by Asus Eee Pad Transformer and HP TouchPad

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - Sep 21, 2011) - The HP TouchPad's new low price is just right, according to the new SocialNuggets Tablet Index for August. In fact, the price reduction was so well received by consumers that intent to purchase for this tablet jumped to the number two position despite being a discontinued product. The Asus Eee Pad Transformer with its $399 price point was sold out this month and had the highest net perception for tablet pricing. So what can we learn? According to social media conversations, the ideal price for a tablet is now between $99 and $399 except for the market leader Apple who commands a premium price for its iPad2. Other tablets such as the Blackberry Playbook, which is $499, obtained a negative perception on its pricing, leaving consumers feeling that it should be less expensive.

During August, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer jumped to the second position in the SocialNuggets Tablet Index for August, beating out other Android tablets. The Asus Eee Pad Transformer's pricing, its unique accessories that connect to PCs and its good display received a very high net perception score. However, in terms of share of voice leader, Samsung continues to take the lead among Android tablets. The HP TouchPad came in third on the index due to its low price point and excellent feature set, while the iPad2 continues leads the race for tablets with the number one position.
