HubPages Announces Growth in Every Measurable Category

Social Content Community Climbs to Top 50 U.S. Sites

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - December 30, 2010) - Blending the benefits of the Internet, such as searchability and social networking, with the traditional publishing model, where writers choose their ideas and make money from their content, HubPages has reported a year of growth in every measurable category. By giving its 200,000 users a way to earn money while writing online, HubPages has climbed into the top 50 websites, according to Quantcast.

"While publishing is undergoing tremendous turmoil, the greatest effect is on writers who find it difficult to generate an income through their writing," says Paul Edmondson, CEO of HubPages. "The tools that writers need to be successful online are very different from the requirements of traditional publishing. By offering our writers these tools, and then giving 60 percent of the generated ad revenue to the individual writer, we've become the most rewarding and fun place to publish content. This has resulted in increased traffic and popularity of HubPages, as demonstrated by the Quantcast ranking."

The publication of online articles by the HubPages community on a diverse range of topics nearly doubled in 2010, growing from 600,000 Hubs in early January, to 1,100,000 Hubs at the end of December.

"The most impressive aspect of the growth of created Hubs is revealed when you compare a HubPages article with other Web 2.0 content that proliferates online," said Ren Chin, Vice President of Marketing. "On HubPages, we ask our writers to create informative, original and expert articles complete with photos, videos and maps. To achieve momentous growth within such a demanding section is very encouraging. Plus, we have evidence that the quality of the published Hubs have improved significantly, thanks to the constant monitoring by HubPages' moderation team."

The number of published users have also increased 64 percent over the year, increasing from 125,000 to 205,000, as did their engagement within the site, with 86 percent more forum posts by users and many more questions and answers posted within HubPages' community pages. Internally, HubPages has grown from 9 employees to 20 employees in 2010, and is hiring across all departments in the upcoming year.
