Social Content Community Sees Rise of Content Creation on Its Technology-Enabled Platform

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - October 15, 2010) -  Content creation may be stagnating across the world, according to a recent report by Forrester Research, but social content site, HubPages, is seeing a rise in article creation. HubPages recently marked the milestone of 1 million articles published on its online platform, a figure made more notable because HubPages asks its authors to create original, magazine-like, interactive content. In turn, HubPages shares 60 percent of the online-ad revenue with its users, making the site the most rewarding place for people to contribute their knowledge.

HubPages lets experts from all walks of life create articles according to their interests and publish it on the site's technology-enabled platform. The articles, which are organized by topics, are social-interaction enabled; letting HubPages authors connect with each other while also earning money from their published articles.

"A vast number of Web 2.0 companies rely on their users to build their businesses for them through user-generated content. These companies also rely on the online-ad business model. But the generated ad-revenue is not shared with the user on whose labor the business is built," says Paul Edmondson, Co-Founder and CEO of HubPages. "We do things differently. The millionth "hub" or article was posted by user Jaynie2000 and featured recipes and decoration ideas for Halloween treats. "If you're looking for some neat snack ideas for your little Trick-or-Treaters, you've come to the right hub," begins the article, which goes on to offer a range of kid-friendly ideas for Halloween goodies.

This milestone comes on the heels of HubPages taking strong steps to moderate the quality of content on its site. Over and above its spam and adult content detection technology, HubPages has doubled its moderating staff and increased the technologies they use. This anti-volume, pro-quality decision has resulted in a growth in both good content and in earnings for HubPages and its users.
