Hugh Jackman Dances Onto TicketNews' November Events Rankings

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT--(Marketwire - Dec 5, 2011) - "Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway" highlights a month of massive theatre ticket sales. The Aussie actor's one-man musical revue is one of several productions that made its mark on TicketNews' exclusive events rankings, compiled from November 1-30.

Since opening on November 10 at the Broadhurst Theatre, "Back on Broadway" has played to full houses and earned a No. 11 rankings debut. But theatergoers will have to act fast if they want to see the 10-week limited engagement, which is scheduled to close January 1, 2012.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone are two more Hollywood elite who had a great month on Broadway. The "South Park" creators' hit musical "The Book of Mormon" recouped its $11.4 million capitalization costs in just nine months, producers announced on November 29. The musical ranked No. 5 for the month.

Not to be ignored is the continued success of two holiday favorites: Radio City Christmas Spectacular and Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Both shows' ticket sales benefited from the ever-nearing holiday. The Christmas Spectacular vaulted from sixth place in October to No. 3 last month, while TSO advanced one spot to No. 4.

Events to Watch in December:

  • After the early November announcement of Radiohead's initial 2012 tour dates, the band debuted at No. 15 in TicketNews' rankings. The English rockers are expected to further climb the rankings once more U.S. concerts are confirmed.
  • The NBA ended its 149-day lockout on November 29 and will announce a shortened 66-game schedule on December 6. Ticket sales may land large-market teams, like the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics, on December's rankings.
  • Ticket sales should uptick as college football's bowl season gets underway. Initial bowl games occur December 17, and the BCS National Championship Game concludes the season on January 9.
