Hunger Hero Opportunities Abound in Support of the Calgary Food Bank


CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - June 1, 2012) - Husky Help the Hungry Week begins today, kicking off seven days of opportunity for Calgarians to help the Food Bank help others. Join us and be a Hunger Hero.

June 4

7:00AM to 9:00AM - Official kick-off in the lobby at Western Canadian Place (Husky's Head Office). Husky Energy will unveil their food sculpture. Food Bank volunteers will be on hand accepting donations.

June 5

9:00AM to 1:30PM - Calgary Police versus EMS Food Build. Drop by the new Calgary Police Services Westwinds Campus (5111 47 St. N.E.) and witness competitive camaraderie at its best. Judging to take place at 1:30 PM.

June 4 - 8

7:00AM to 2:00PM daily - Volunteers will accept donations of food and funds in the Western Canadian Place lobby.

Calgarians are encouraged to Pitch a Penny into the fountain in the lobby of Western Canadian Place (bagged change can be dropped off at the Food Bank donation desk in the Western Canadian Place lobby or the EMS station at Whitehorn).

June 9

It's Hunger Heroes Day at four Husky stations only. Volunteers will be on-site to accept donations of food and funds and will be handing out balloons and snacks. Husky will also be giving away points for its new myHusky Rewards Loyalty Card. XL103 on-air personalities will be travelling between these four locations throughout the day.

Join the for a feast of high romanticism featuring Rücketrt Lieder - Gustav Mahler's greatest song cycle - sung by Calgary's Calgary Civic Symphony own mezzo-soprano Jacqui Lynn Fidlar. The orchestra will be joined by Calgary musicians from all corners for Bruckner's monumental 9th Symphony. This is the closing event for the Calgary Food Bank's Husky Help the Hungry Week. For a $100 donation, symphony-goers can enjoy a Donor Appreciation Gala following the concert with conductor Rolf Bertsch and Jacqui Lynn Fidlar.
