Hurricane Electric Presents Web SIG and "Wiki Technology & Trends: Past, Now, and Future"

FREMONT, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 18, 2006 -- Hurricane Electric, a leading Internet Backbone and Colocation Provider, announced today that Web SIG, the new Silicon Valley based users group it sponsors, will discuss wiki technology at its inaugural meeting, being held on October 25, 2006.

Web SIG is a new users group founded by the original executive board members of Silicon Valley Webguild, the oldest and largest web organization in the Bay Area. Web SIG focuses on the latest web technology, design, and trends and is designed to promote open discussions on technology and provide a friendly environment where friends and professionals can gather to exchange technical information and expand their knowledge.

Web SIG will dedicate its first meeting to a comprehensive discussion on wiki technology entitled "Wiki Technology & Trends: Past, Now, and Future." A wiki is a type of website that allows visitors to easily contribute or edit content with just a browser and without HTML code, making it an effective tool for collaborative authoring. Wikis have gained popularity like email, IM, and Blogs and are widely used in business and personal applications globally.

The meeting will include a panel discussion led by industry experts including Ben Elowitz, CEO at Wetpaint.com; Jeff Walker, President at Atlassian Software Systems; Dr. Jonas M Luster, Community Manager at Socialtext; and Scott Johnston, Vice President of Products at JotSpot. Peter Thoeny, Founder at TWiki.org & Co-founder at StructuredWikis LLC, will moderate the discussion, which will touch on Wiki 1.0, Wiki 2.0, and future Wiki 3.0, including such topics as mistakes from Wiki 1.0, how Wiki 2.0 customized into Wiki applications and Social Wikis, and what Wiki 3.0 can do for us in the distant future.

"Web 2.0 is about collaboration and sharing information online. Collaborative Wikis are gaining popularity rapidly in the form of Wiki applications and Social Wikis. Can wikis outperform Blogs to become the main stream of web publishing? Can wikis outsmart traditional web applications? What is the outlook for Wiki 3.0? These questions will be discussed by the founders and executives of the key Wiki players in the market," said Bess Ho, Chair and Founder of Web SIG.

"There is nothing more exciting than introducing our first meeting with a discussion panel consisting of five top leading wiki experts," added Bess Ho, Chair and Founder of Web SIG.

"Wiki Technology & Trends: Past, Now, and Future" will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2006 between 6:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at Hurricane Electric's new colocation facility, located at 48233 Warm Springs Blvd. in Fremont, CA. Admission is free but does require advance registration. To register for "Wiki Technology & Trends: Past, Now, and Future," please visit http://websig.mollyguard.com.
