Both vehicles have combined technology developed by Ballard as well as Hybrid Technologies. The combination of an advanced battery balancing system integrated into a high torque motor system is believed to be among the most sustainable and practical of its kind in the world.

The motor has a 32Kw continuous rating and delivers a peak power of 67Kw. Hybrid engineers selected this motor based on its proven track record along with an excellent power to weight ratio. The drive system also has a highly advanced single ratio gearbox with a differential for front transaxles.

Development of the PT Cruisers will take place in Hybrid's Mooresville plant, while motor applications will remain under the guidance of Ballard Power Systems.
