For over four years, Remy Fernandes has volunteered on the board of directors for Brampton Safe City, a network of concerned citizens, businesses, schools and community agencies working together with police, emergency services, and government agencies to make the community as safe as it can be. Brampton Safe City Association has been serving the Brampton community since 1982. Their mandate is to educate and engage citizens in safety.

The organization has honoured Remy as one of their Local Heroes of Safety at the 31st Annual Brampton Safe City Awards on November 13th at the Riverstone Golf & Country Club. "Remy has made a significant contribution of his time and expertise to the organization through his role as board member," says Larry Zacher, Executive Director, Brampton Safe City. "His passion, knowledge, and enthusiasm greatly benefit our ongoing work for the safety of our community."

One of Remy's top priorities as President & CEO of Hydro One Brampton is to ensure the safety of its employees. "As identified in our Health and Safety Policy, there is nothing more important than the health and safety of our employees and those that work for us," says Remy. "It's important for us to know that we have equipped our employees with the knowledge and experience to not only work without injury but to also return home safely to their families." In 2012, Hydro One Brampton reported their most successful year in safety performance in their history. With an 'All Injury Rate' of 0.57 incidents per 200,000 hours worked, Hydro One Brampton prides itself as a leader when it comes to safety.

"Hydro One Brampton's attention to safe operations and customer safety is an example of leadership in the utility sector," said Carmine Marcello, President & CEO of Hydro One Inc. "Remy's recognition is well-earned as he has built a safety culture to be envied by any organization."
