Hydro One strike back to Nanticoke!

Attention: Assignment Editor, Business/Financial Editor, Energy Editor, News Editor, Tech/Telecomm Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - June 24, 2005) - Professional employees on strike at Hydro One will return to Lake Erie today to set up information pickets at Nanticoke Generating Station, and at a very important customer of the transmission utility.

"Ontario industrial consumers like Stelco depend on a secure, reliable supply of electricity," said Keith Rattai, Local Vice President of the Society of Energy Professionals. "Also, we 're returning to Nanticoke because the energy professionals and power workers there told us that our fight is about them, too. Together we'll tell Premier McGuinty he's got to clean up the mess Tom Parkinson's making."

The strikers say that if another outage occurs like the one of May 27th (often erroneously referred to as a "blip"), industrial customers like Imperial Oil risks millions of dollars in lost production.

WHERE: Nanticoke Generating Station and Stelco's Lake Erie facility, both on the shore of Lake Erie in the Town of Haldimand

WHEN: June 24, 2005; 5 a.m. to lunch

Ontario Power Generation's Nanticoke Station is an important, coal-fired supplier to Ontario's electricity system. Stelco Lake Erie manufactures ultralow carbon, superformable steels, and employs about 1,400 people.
