Hydro Ottawa Applauds Oxford Properties for Investing in Efficiency

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 21, 2012) - Hydro Ottawa is proud to present Oxford Properties with this month's Companies for Conservation award for cutting its annual energy use by more than 1.5 million kWh.

The commercial real estate owner and manager upgraded to a high efficiency cooling system at its Constitution Square building, cutting energy costs by an impressive $180,000 each year. The project included replacing six chillers, six cooling towers and 25 pumps at the downtown Ottawa office complex.

The project received $295,000 in incentives for this upgrade through the saveONenergy Retrofit Program, which is administered locally by Hydro Ottawa. This province-wide initiative provides partial funding to commercial customers who complete energy efficiency retrofit projects.

"The results of this retrofit program are inspiring, and prove that environmental stewardship makes good business sense," said Roger Marsh, Hydro Ottawa's Chief Energy Management Officer.

Oxford Properties has committed to making its buildings more efficient by re-commissioning its base building systems, through targeted capital investments in more efficient equipment, and working with its tenants as partners to reduce energy and greenhouse gas emissions.

"Pursuing more sustainable practices is good business, and it meets the expectations of our tenants," said Dan Dube, Ottawa Operation Manager at Oxford Properties Group. "Oxford is proud to be recognized in the industry as a sustainability leader. We're making a real and measurable difference through energy efficiency projects like the one at Constitution Square."

Hydro Ottawa's Companies for Conservation program recognizes local companies and organizations for their innovative conservation projects. Oxford Properties joins a growing list of business leaders who have also been recognized for their green achievements. Past recipients include: LCBO, the Ottawa Hospital and the University of Ottawa.
