Hydro Ottawa Restores Power to Residents After Severe Wind Storm

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 2, 2011) - Hydro Ottawa reports that service has been restored to the more than 46,000 customers that lost power as a result of last week's severe storm.

"The magnitude and impact of this storm on our distribution system was truly unique," said Norm Fraser, Chief Operating Officer of Hydro Ottawa. "Despite downed trees, wires and poles impeding our restoration efforts and posing potential safety hazards to the public and our staff, we were able to restore power to 43,000 customers within 24 hours without incident. Power was restored to all customers by the end of the weekend. I would like to thank our customers for their support and patience as our crews worked tirelessly to restore power."

The violent weather caused widespread damage to our distribution system throughout the city. More urban hydro poles were damaged during this event than during the 1998 ice storm. Hydro Ottawa responded to more than 400 outages. In 68 locations across the city, high voltage wires were damaged and on the ground. If customers are still experiencing a power outage,, they are encouraged to notify us by calling 613 738-0188.
