Hydro Ottawa Warns of Suspicious Calls Soliciting Credit Card Information

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 24, 2011) - Hydro Ottawa has received reports of suspicious callers asking customers to provide their credit card information in order to participate in a 'new payment option during the postal disruption.' Hydro Ottawa is not associated with this unidentified individual or company, and does not phone customers to solicit credit card information for regular bill payment.

Hydro Ottawa encourages Ottawa residents to be cautious. Should they receive a suspicious call claiming to be from Hydro Ottawa, they should ask for the caller's identification and call us at 613-738-6400 to verify the legitimacy of the call.

If customers have given their credit card information to a suspicious caller, they are advised to contact the Ottawa Police Service at 613-236-1222 ext. 7300.

During the postal disruption, Hydro Ottawa has initiated an automated telephone system to call to customers when their bills are issued. These calls are legitimate, informing customers of payment options. These calls do not request any information from the customer, including credit card information.
