Hydro Ottawa's 2009-2010 Rates Approved

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 16, 2009) - Today, the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) announced its approval of Hydro Ottawa's distribution rates for 2009-2010. The new rates, which will take effect May 1, 2009, uphold Hydro Ottawa's record of maintaining one of the most reliable and efficient electricity distribution networks in Ontario.

"Our objective is to provide service as efficiently as possible, while ensuring that Ottawa's electricity system is in excellent shape for the future," said Rosemarie Leclair, President and CEO of the Hydro Ottawa Group of Companies. "We're very pleased that we have been able to continue this record of efficient and reliable service over the past year, once again keeping our rate increase to a minimum."

The OEB's rate decision includes an increase of approximately 0.3% on the total bill related to Hydro Ottawa's operations, an increase in transmission rates paid to Hydro One of approximately 0.8% on the total bill, an increase related to the provincial Smart Meter project of 54 cents per month, and additional adjustments totaling 0.8% on the total bill.

When all of these adjustments are combined, a typical residential customer consuming 1,000 kWh of electricity per month will see their total bill increase by 2.4%, or $2.73 per month, with the portion directly related to Hydro Ottawa's operations totaling 34 cents. All of the above adjustments are incorporated in the Delivery line on a customer's bill.

Ontario Energy Board comparisons have consistently shown that Hydro Ottawa is one of the most efficient electricity distributors in the province, with operating, maintenance and administration costs lower than the provincial average.
