Hydro overseer gets early wakeup call

Attention: Assignment Editor, Business/Financial Editor, Energy Editor, News Editor, Tech/Telecomm Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - June 12, 2005) - Striking Hydro One energy professionals will picket and leaflet at the operations centre of Ontario's Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO).

The IESO oversees the reliability and safety of Ontario's electrical system, carefully matching electricity supply to electricity demand, and closely monitoring the performance of the electricity transmission system.

"We have a close working relationship with the highly qualified, highly skilled professionals at the IESO," said Hydro One Local leader Keith Rattai. "We have a constitutional right to let them know what's being demanded of us could very likely be demanded next of them."

Energy professionals employed by Hydro One have been on strike since June 1st, fighting Hydro One's unfair demands for a two-tier wage and benefit schedule that discriminates against younger professionals, and an effective 11 per cent cut in wages for most employees.

When: 5:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. Monday, June 13th

Where: IESO headquarters 2635 Lakeshore Road West in Mississauga (QEW to Winston Churchill Boulevard, south to Lakeshore Road, east to IESO)
