MEMPHIS, TN--(Marketwired - Sep 23, 2015) - Action fantasy I AM SPARTAN is the headlining short at Unreal Film Festival at Evergreen Theatre, located at 1705 Poplar Avenue. Written, directed, and choreographed by martial arts expert and dancer Jyo Carolino, I AM SPARTAN debuts Friday, October 9th at 7:00 p.m. A question and answer session will follow.

I AM SPARTAN creator also Carolino plays the soldier, Spartan, who comes back from war a broken man. After returning home, he experiences another tragic loss. While on a personal mission to destroy his own life, Spartan is offered the chance to survive one final battle to find redemption. Recently featured on Film Combat Syndicate's Hit List, I AM SPARTAN's trailer shows a glimpse of the battle and the weapons used to fight it. The guns, knives, tomahawk, and swords came from vetted weapon makers across the country, including the Hollywood Combat Center, Rogue Steel, and Baltimore Knife and Sword. Each cast member trained for a minimum of 30 hours before showing their skills on screen.

A professional fight and dance choreographer, Carolino is certified in a wide variety of stage combat weapon styles. He grew up studying many forms of self-defense shooting and martial arts, including American Boxing, Pekiti-Tirsia Kali, and Muay Boran, before developing a passion for theatrical violence. His choreography has been seen on Memphis stages for nearly a decade. In addition to I AM SPARTAN, Carolino's moves can also be seen in the upcoming production of Titus Andronicus by New Moon Theatre.
