i-minerals inc.: High Purity Quartz Product Produced from Kelly's Basin Composite Sample

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Dec. 20, 2007) - i-minerals inc. (TSX VENTURE:IMA) announces it has received results from Dorfner Anzaplan ("Dorfner") a specialty quartz testing laboratory in Germany. Dorfner's initial work included a detailed analysis of the quartz product created by Minerals Research Laboratory at North Carolina State University ("MRL") using a multistage flotation technique. This first analysis by Dorfner confirmed MRL had created a high purity quartz product with total impurities significantly less than 500 parts per million ("ppm") or greater than 99.95% SiO2. High purity quartz products are used in a variety of applications including the manufacture of metallurgical silicon, which is used in the manufacture of solar panels, specialty chemicals manufacturing, and optical applications including fibre optics among other applications. Various applications required different specifications for total element content. i-minerals is undertaking additional analysis for less common elements to confirm the quartz product is acceptable into a variety of markets and applications.

The sample sent to Dorfner for testing and analysis was created by MRL from a composite sample of three drill holes that span a distance of approximately 1400 feet of the 1800 foot strike length of the Kelly's Basin deposit as defined by over 50 drill holes. A series of leach testing by Dorfner succeeded in reducing the total impurities in the quartz product to approximately 30 ppm (approximately 99.997% SiO2), however titanium values could not be sufficiently reduced for the quartz product to achieve ultra high purity quality. Given the outstanding success in purifying the quartz product for all elements other than titanium, i-minerals will review the Helmer-Bovill property geology in an effort to identify areas that may have lower titanium which will provide better prospects for producing an ultra high purity quartz product. Nonetheless, the ability to produce the high purity quartz product through conventional flotation techniques will provide additional market opportunities for the company.

An updated resource calculation covering the Kelly's Basin portion of the Helmer - Bovill project is currently being compiled by SRK Engineering (US) Inc. ("SRK"). Beyond the significant high purity quartz tonnage at Kelly's Basin, analytical work on the quartz component of the residual clay will be undertaken in early 2008 to assess the potential for the large volumes of residual clays to also host high purity quartz in addition to kaolinite and halloysite. Drilling of the residual clays in August and September of 2007 intersected intervals ranging up to 120 feet of residual clays over an area in excess of 1000 acres.

"Production of high purity quartz products from the Kelly's Basin deposit will increase both our product mix and our revenue stream from the deposit," commented Roger Kauffman, president of i-minerals. With respect to the ongoing feasibility study, MRL has completed the final pilot plant run on the sodium feldspar composite sample. Production at the pilot plant level again confirms that a high alumina feldspar product with high total alkalis can be produced using a standard flotation process. This work has optimized the metallurgical process and will provide input for feasibility, basic engineering and preconstruction. Quartz product produced during the feldspar production will be processed later for continued HPQ testing. SRK is actively working on, and expects to finalize shortly, the updated resource calculation and the mine plan.

Significant progress is being made on the permitting process with all requested information having been submitted to the regulatory agencies with the 45 day public comment period expected to commence shortly after the holiday season.
