i-minerals inc.: New Residual Clay Processing Offers Excellent Opportunities

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - June 18, 2008) - i-minerals inc. (TSX VENTURE:IMA) announces that preliminary bench scale testing of residual clays has been completed. Initially, a degritting process was undertaken wherein the residual clay was separated into a feldspar/quartz fraction and a kaolinitic clay fraction. The kaolinitic clay fraction was processed a second time in an effort to separate the kaolin and halloysite fractions. The technique used is a relatively low capital cost process and is a very scalable technique used elsewhere in the processing of residual clays. Samples were sent to Ginn Mineral Technologies, Inc (GMT) for Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) examination which has indicated favorable initial results that warrant further testing of this separation technique.

Subsequently, a process flow sheet has been finalized and the necessary process equipment has been purchased by i-minerals and installed at GMT. Initial trial processing has been completed using a bulk sample of residual clay material sent to GMT in late 2007. Product quality evaluations are currently in progress, and when completed the Company expects to have various products for market development. They will include a kaolin product for which it will explore opportunities in several applications, a halloysite product for testing in nano-composite and other high-tech applications, a potassium feldspar product, and a quartz product that will undergo further testing to determine the level of purity that can be reached as an HPQ. The HPQ product produced from the Kelly's Basin Deposit (see the company's press release of December 20, 2007) was from the unweathered feldspar hosted rock, whereas higher purities may be found in the weathered residual source rock as has been suggested for HPQ source rocks in North Carolina.
