IABC and Marketwire Launch "Conversations with CEOs" Podcast Series

Series Explores Communications Needs, Challenges, and Best Practices of CEOs From Around the World

TORONTO and SAN FRANCISCO, CA --(Marketwire - August 12, 2011) - Marketwire and the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Research Foundation recently launched a new podcast series, "Conversations with CEOs," focused on the role of communication in business and organizational success as seen through the eyes of CEOs. The series is part of the Foundation's research in progress, "Conversations with CEOs: Communication Leadership in Modern Organizations," sponsored by Marketwire and prepared by Shugoll Research.

The podcast series and the research study examine executive communication through one-on-one interviews with CEOs of companies in a variety of industry sectors, varying demographics (age, gender, race/ethnicity/culture), and varying spheres of influence, from country- and region-specific to global. Twenty in-depth interviews with senior executives from large companies around the world were included in the study.

"Conversations with CEOs" Podcast Series: Highlights

  • CEOs included in the podcast series are representative of the world stage, and include:

    • Brian Dunn, CEO of Best Buy
    • Eric Morrison, former CEO of The Canadian Press
    • Barry Griswell, former chairman and CEO of Principal Financial Group
    • Phillip Barton, CEO of De Beers
    • Mark Price, managing director of Waitrose Supermarkets

  • CEOs speak about the skills needed for the role of communicator; the communication needs identified by organizational leaders and their communication staff; and the skills required of leaders to be effective as communicators and as heads of organizations.

  • The first two podcast interviews are now available for download.

Julie Freeman, ABC, APR, IABC president

"The Research Foundation commissioned this study because IABC leaders know that our members and other professionals want to hear from business leaders, who are not necessarily communicators by profession, about how communication can have a positive impact in their organizations. Broadcasting the results of a research study in a podcast is a new format for the Foundation. We hope that this will make the insights gained in the study more accessible to a broader audience of professional communicators. And we thank Marketwire for their support of this important project."

Michael Nowlan, president and chief executive officer, Marketwire

"There are so many facets to a CEO's role. First and foremost is to oversee and set the overall strategic direction of the organization, but it's also about establishing the cultural tone of the organization, and keeping the lines of communication open internally and externally. The interviews within this podcast series illustrate how critical communication is to the success of any organization, and to any CEO, around the world."
