IABC Members Bring Home the Gold From New York

Gold Quill Awards Gala Recognizes Outstanding Communicators

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Jun 25, 2013) -  The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) announced their 2013 Gold Quill "Best of Show," Sharon Berzok, Jake Whittmer, and Business Issue Award winners at the 2013 Gold Quill Gala, as part of the annual IABC World Conference in New York on Monday, 24 June.

The Best of Show winners who received their awards are:

  • Brenda Lea Brown, ABC from the British Columbia Securities Commission (Vancouver, BC) won External Communications Best of Show for her entry, Be Fraud Aware: Multilingual Public Awareness Campaign.
  • Elise Guibord from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (Ottawa, ON) won Communication Education and Training Best of Show for her entry, RCMP Internal Communication Toolkit.
  • Marianne Gobeil from Leading Communicators, Inc. (Toronto, ON) won Communication Research Management Best of Show for her entry, titled Speakcheck Diagnostic.
  • Mari Lee, ABC from Development Communication Solutions (Centurion, South Africa), who won Internal Communication Best of Show for her entry, titled Communication Excellence Delivers Agri-Incubation Production Increase.
  • Nadine Pettman, ABC from Suncor (Calgary, AB) won Communication Skills Best of Show winner for her entry, A Strategic Launch for a Strategic Publication.

The Sharon Berzok Student Award and $500 scholarship was given to Aimee Adams (St. Louis, MO), student at Avila University for her entry, the Glitter Run.

The Jake Whittmer Research Award was won by Cynthia Tetaka (Toronto, ON) from Hydro One Inc. for her entry, The Reliability App Launch.

The Business Issue Award was given to Jane Mitchell (Ripley Surrey, UK) from HarknessKennett for her entry, Building World-Class Employee Communications at HSBC.

The 2013 Gold Quill program received over 800 entries, of which 250 were chosen as winners, the most of any year that the program has been in existence. The winners gathered on the 24th June at the Hilton in New York City for a Gala where they were to be individually presented their awards.
