Canadian musicians now have an opportunity to honour – and emulate – one of Canada's legendary singer/songwriters. Canadian-based guitar makers MacKenzie & Marr are launching the Ian Tyson Limited Edition Guitar to pay tribute to the folk and country music legend's classic, unembellished style.

"Ian Tyson stands alone among Canadian singer/songwriters, both in terms of stature among his peers, and impact on the music industry," said co-founder and designer Jonathan MacKenzie. "We've been fans for over 40 years, and couldn't think of a better namesake for our first signature guitar."

As distinctive and authentic as Tyson himself, the instrument delivers a deep, rich sound and full musical range that perfectly complements Tyson's style found in timeless songs such as Four Strong Winds, Someday Soon, and Navajo Rug. The guitar – featuring a slightly bigger "Alberta" body – a nod to Tyson's adopted province – is part of the company's upcoming "Legends Series". The launch coincides with a celebration of Tyson's five decades of music, which includes a series of concerts across Canada and release of an autobiography later this year.

"When I first played this guitar, I immediately liked it," said Tyson. " I wanted one for myself and so did the guys in my band. It's an incredible value!" User reviews of the guitar are available at http://www.macmarr.com/store/iantyson

Priced at $1200 CDN, the guitar offers high-end sound and quality without the high-end price, making it affordable for the majority of the guitar-playing public who play in Tyson's style.

"You can put this guitar up against others that are considerably more expensive and it will outperform them," said company President John Marr.

The company also keeps its overhead low by selling exclusively online– a novel approach for a product people traditionally try before they buy. Still, the small company sells about 50 guitars a month on www.macmarr.com.

Happy to claim the title World's Smallest Guitar Store with its online approach, the fledgling company, based in Montreal, is looking forward to steady but modest growth. After a successful pitch on Dragons' Den early in 2010, MacKenzie & Marr secured first-round financing from Dragons' W. Brett Wilson, Jim Treliving and avid guitarist Kevin O'Leary.

About the Ian Tyson Limited Edition Guitar

The Ian Tyson Limited Edition is a solid wood instrument with a factory installed Fishman Sonitone Onboard Preamp System. The top is 3A solid spruce with scalloped x bracing and mated to solid Akoumé back and sides. It boasts the strong bass of a superb dreadnought-styled guitar without the associated size and bulk, and without burying the mid and treble response delivering a deep, rich sound. It's a flat-picker's guitar that doesn't leave a finger style player lost when he moves up the neck.

About MacKenzie & Marr Guitars

The privately owned company sells a limited range of hand crafted acoustic guitars through its web site (www.macmarr.com) at factory-direct prices. It was co-founded in 2009 by Jonathan MacKenzie of Kanata, Ontario, and John Marr of Montreal, Quebec.

Growing up in Waterloo, Ontario, the two friends met in 1958, and began playing guitar together in the mid-60's when acoustic folk music was gaining popularity.

Marr, with a background in sales, and MacKenzie, a physician with a passion for guitar design, decided to launch the new online business as they approached the end of their two successful careers, with a promise to rival one-of-a-kind custom guitars.
