IASA Announces the Association's New Insurance Industry Scholarship Program


DURHAM, NC--(Marketwire - February 16, 2010) - The Insurance Accounting & Systems Association, Inc. (IASA) is pleased to announce the association will award three scholarships in 2010 to students at a sophomore level or above enrolled in a university with an insurance program and whose course of study is working toward a degree in Information Technology, Accounting or Risk Management.

"Supporting the education of worthy students goes to the heart of what IASA is all about," said Joe Pomilia, IASA Executive Director. "This program is a going to be an outstanding opportunity for IASA to make a difference, not only in the educational opportunity for the award winners, but also on a longer term basis for improving our industry. It will also be a great way for IASA members to participate in supporting the education process for future industry leaders."

In order to be eligible for one of the three $2,000 IASA scholarships, which will be awarded this year, applicants must be:

--  A candidate for a bachelor's degree or higher at an institute with an
    insurance program
--  Currently attending a college or university and will be completing or
    have completed at least the first of a four-year college program
    (minimum of 24 credits completed by the time the scholarship is to be
    awarded)
--  Working toward a degree in: Information Technology, Accounting, or Risk
    Management -- all within an insurance program
--  Have at least a 3.0 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale
--  Not receiving full reimbursement for tuition from an employer or from
    any other outside source; and
--  Recommended by a current member, or member company, of IASA.

The selection process, which will also factor in financial need, involves an initial screening to ensure that each application received or postmarked on or before March 20, 2010 has been completed in full, and that all instructions have been followed by the applicant. Applications that meet all of the submission requirements will then be reviewed by the IASA Scholarship Selection Committee. Applicants will be notified of the Committee's decision by mail on or before June 1, 2010.
